Reasons To Consider Ethnic Rhinoplasty

Since plastic surgery is becoming more and more popular in today’s society, it only makes sense that an increasing number of African Americans are beginning to take advantage of various types of plastic surgery. Today, there is less stigma surrounding cosmetic surgery, and over the past decade, the number of African Americans seeking cosmetic surgery has nearly quadrupled.

Ethnic rhinoplasty is a popular option, and patients want to make sure that they’re able to retain their ethnicity. The goal is to give ethnic patients a refined appearance. Many traditional rhinoplasty techniques can leave the nose looking pinched and out of proportion with the rest of the face. The African American nose has unique aesthetics, and if you want the best results, you need a surgeon who understands it.

What We Do Differently

The nose gets its shape from cartilage, bone and skin. The unique appearance of every individual is determined by the way that these components interact. Ethnic rhinoplasty can be effective at changing the shape of cartilage and bone, and it can also reshape the skin that covers the bone and cartilage. For example, many patients would like to have a hump removed. Once the hump is eliminated, the skin is reshaped, and the end result is a straightened, refined nose.

An African American nose has a different structure. Problems can arise because the cartilage and bone aren’t supportive. The cartilage can be quite weak, and the bones tend to be flat and small. The soft tissue that covers these components is rigid and thick, so it’s not very efficient at showing any changes made to the cartilage and bone.

Most Caucasian patients have a strong bone framework, which is covered by soft, thin tissue. It should be easy to understand why Caucasian rhinoplasty techniques don’t work very well for African American patients.

Reasons to Contemplate an Ethnic Rhinoplasty Procedure

If you don’t like the appearance of your nose, there are several reasons to consider this procedure. Many patients decide to get an ethnic nose job because they’ve been unhappy with their nose for several years.

Maybe your nose is unusually wide, you have a pronounced hump or you feel like the size of your nose is too small or large. You might’ve even noticed a bulbous tip. These are some of the top reasons to consider getting an ethnic nose job, but there are many others.

A major reason to consider getting ethnic rhinoplasty is for easier breathing. It’s not uncommon for a patient to have difficulty breathing because of an obstructing feature. Although the primary focus of ethnic rhinoplasty is aesthetic improvement, it can have the side effect of improving the functionality of your nose, so you can breathe easier.
